I honestly believe that the frequency of the OS thingy appearing in '51 discussions is an example of the "the '51 is a mini PC syndrome" (ignoring the fact that the architecture of the '51 is unique - or - using the '51 for an app where it is the wrong choice of processor)
questions about/the use of OS function pointers malloc/free are all examples of the "mini PC syndrome". one argument: what's "good for the PC" must be good for the '51. another argument: If it is in 'C' than it is there to be used. and arguing: I do not care about the architecture, it should have no effect on "good" code. It is the compilers job to make my code good for the architecture. These are all false statement used to defend the "mini PC syndrome". If anyone can come up with an application that fit a small microcontroller better than a microprocessor AND will benfit from a RTOS, I would love to see it. Erik |
