#88189 - we are getting closer
Responding to: ???'s previous message
I agree 100%. Using an RTOS on an 8051 is a waste of time.
BINGO

Fortunately not I have not seen many people try to do it.
The sad story is that so many treat the '51 as a "mini PC" and can not live without the "mandatory reqiorement of an" OS. Do you really think Keil would have had the Rtx and CMX the $5000 OS package if there was no market?

However, I believe there are techniques we can steal from the RTOS folks that will help us create better 8051 solutions. That is my only interest in them.
absolutely, There is often a small detail in x that can improve y

How is calling them "tasks" instead of functions going to make a difference??
Tasks are functions with the special property that they need be able to run concurrently. It is therefore crucial to the success of a real time design that tasks (or concurrent functions - call them what you like) are identified.
1) I do not understand what you mean by "identified???
2) Concurrent in a '51 will be either bloated (by '51 standards)or faulty. The standard implementation of concurrent (a misnomer, should be TDMA) require (a) stack(s) of enormous size which the '51 is singularily lousy at. The "XDATA stack" I have seen implementes is a resource hog.

Ah, TDMA (from my cell experience): Time Division Multiple Access
