I would use three inputs of an ADC: The first gets (signal x 1), the second gets (signal x 2) and the third gets (signal x 3). No switch needed.
Then have a look (by software), which input signal is biggest but smaller than maximum input level.
If a manual range select is needed, than select one of these three inputs by the help of select button.
