#91137 - engineering ethics
Responding to: ???'s previous message
  • amazon search for: engineering ethics
  • i was trying to find an introductory engineering ethics book put out by IEEE when i was in school, a small paperback with a white and red cover (with an engraving for the cover picture?), but i couldn't find it at ieee.org, amazon.com, or abibooks.com. it's buried in the garage somewhere, i hope :(.
  • in california non-compete clauses are supposedly null, but maybe not in all of the united states (there was such a clause in one contract i worked under, for an agency incorporated on the east coast somewhere).
  • morally, i would avoid even pointing out to other engineers any solutions/methods borrowed from another company. not generic stuff like lookup tables, etc. but field-specific algorithms certainly. if the stuff was developed for pay for the other company you shouldn't just pop the algorithm out of your head as if it were your fresh work. it takes some effort but then you don't have to feel guilty about it (assuming you were going to feel guilty).
