Evidently Philips were smarter, whatever the agreement, they could continue manufacturing '51s after the parting with Intel over the "16 bit '51". MHS went on to make NEC microcontrollers so presumably they saw some reason to switch horses. I cannot find anything about them other than references to old stock parts on the web. Perhaps they got swallowed up into the big French semi company. Philips OTOH had many products into which to built 8051s. All their DECT handsets use it and probably all their TVs, video recorders and stand alone CDR recorders/players too. Ian |
