There's the rub: if you add all this extra hardware in the hope of detecting this potential problem, how can you be sure that the extra hardware won't be just as vulnerable to exactly the same sort of problems?

I'm sure many have ignored warning lights in their cars before now, on the assumption that it's a problem with the light rather than a genuine fault in the car...
