#97233 - My story
Responding to: ???'s previous message
I got started with software back on the old Atari 8-bit 6502-based computers in around 1980. I did my own software development for my own purposes on various Atari machines throughout the 80s.

I eventually got hired at a company that did software development on DOS PC-based machines in Microsoft QuickBasic and I did that for a few years. Somewhere along the way I started doing Windows development in Visual Basic and C++ and was also exposed to other languages at the university (which I haven't used since).

In 1996 I moved to Mexico and started working at a company where I was expecting to do mostly Windows development. And I did, for the first 6 months. But then they tasked me with reverse engineering a device that was based on the 8052 (well, 8032). I almost quit the job because, coming from a PC and Windows environment, I saw no future in dealing with such an old, slow microcontroller that didn't even have a disk drive. :)

Anyway, as I started getting into it I found it very interesting. I put up an 8052 page on my personal website and, the next year, registered 8052.com. Consulting contracts started rolling in all by themselves and the rest, as Erik says, is history.

Regards,
Craig Steiner
