#97373 - Gas discharge tubes
Responding to: ???'s previous message
The parent company of the company I work for sells controls and system for livestock confinement systems (chicken barns) in many southern US locations. I have seen some really blackened boards come back after a lightening hit :-)

We sell a Deadbolt(tm) product http://www.hogslat.biz/veo16001.html that uses a combination of MOVs and gas discharge tubes. There are several different models, for phone lines and for RS-485 communications lines (that connect the controls from barn to barn).

They have proven ot be very effective in keeping smoke-powered devices from letting all their smoke out...
