#101355 - Check out the FTDI serial chip
Responding to: ???'s previous message

Bert,

The FTDI FT232 USB-> serial chip has a handy feature in that it has an output that can be used to control a RS485 driver - no software needed. I've used these devices with great success. The 75176 (max485 etc...) connect directly to the chip - instant USB->485 converter. As for actual delay times for bus turnaround, I find it is the code that takes time to process the incoming packet and send a response that creates the delay - especially if it has a CRC attached. As long as your 485 bus is biased to the idle state with no drive, then you should have little problem.
