Right, the 8080 sprang from the 8008 and the 4004 before that.

BTW, my well-worn Intel Microcontroller User's Manual has the first half devoted to the MCS-48 and the second have devoted to the MCS-051 plus preliminary descriptions of the 802x "HMOS Single-component 8-bit Microcomputer".
