Thus, 8008/8080 is not a direct descendant of 4004/4040. This is what I read, I did not compare myself (too young perhaps?). This "internal competition" is not an uncommon thing in Intel: the MCS96 range is completely different from the '51s; and certainly there are similar examples in the processor families of Intel.
