Pierce oscillators resonating at an overtone are highly difficult to design, because the quartz always tries to resonate on its fundamental!

so why bother, use a fundamental resonance crystal

We, do, way too often, get into lenghty discussions about "how to use the wrong part" that is ridiculous, why is it so difficult to buy the right part in the first place. If you spent $0.50 buying a whatshamacallit and a $0.50 thingamajig is what is required, go back to the store.
