no worse than scanning keyboard,

like many control loops that consist of

(1) examine inputs
(2) take appropriate action
(3) do it again forever
a) no sensible person would scan a keyboard in an infernal loop, it woud be done on a timer interrupt
b) If you are 5 milliseconds late in scanning a keyboard, so what, if you are 5ms late in reading Rxd OOPS
c) apples have adifferent consitency and taste than oranges
