Not every sensible person had a timer avaiable, back then, yet they managed SW Uart pretty readily, including the early work by Bill Gates and friends, in the mid-70's.

I did not know that "Bill Gates and friends" did any work on the '51.

The VERY FIRST (and every one since) '51 had/has 2 timers and a UART.

That something has been done on a PC (or something else not '51 based) does not make it relevant to the '51 when the '51 has features enabling a better solution.
