#127440 - well it is
Responding to: ???'s previous message
I wouldn't want to be dedicated to using KEIL tools when they start putting on the pressure to cause the market to shift from 805x to ARM
When and if that happens, there will be other options - HOWEVER no such thing has happened and there is no indication such a thing is imminent or even going to happen. Why reject going where the best apple pie is just because the restaurant may discontine it.

Keil IS the best and, as long as it is, I will be using it.

I REALLY doubt that Keil will abandon the '51 for a VERY long time, i have no doubt that the development efforts will be directed towatds the ARM. But, since the Keil '51 tools are mature, that should not be a problem. What I forsee re Keil is that the immediacy of adapting the compiler to 'special features' (e.g. they made the compiler use double dptr almost the day the chips came out) will somehow diminish, but if you need full use of a special feature, you are better off in assembler anyhow.

In reference to the above, I had an opportunity to use a 7 year old Keil release (no, Keil Merketing, I will not tell you where) and it worked beautifully, just the IDE (any IDE is a joke anyhow) was not useful according to "the local". Using the sensible approach of commandline operation there was no difference between 7 years ago and today. I am sure that if I had compared, the 7 year old compile would have been a bit more voluminous and somewhat slower, but if that is OK then so what.

Thus, if Keil abandon (or whatever) the '51 I will just happily keep chugging along with what I have.

The latest 'yearly upgrade' I got DID have some improvements to the '51 tools.
