#132167 - Just to play it safe Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The AT89S52 in 40 pdip, which is likely a 100% pin compatable replacement for your chip, is $2.01 USD at Digikey, which is about $2.38 CDN today
Just to play it safe, I'd stay away from the Atmel 'S' chips, there have been 100s of posts "I can not get the download to work" and all have been replied to/resolved by purchasing the 'authorized' Atmel download cable at $25. I know that 'some' have succeeded with a homemade rig, but doubt it will be the right thing in this case due to the difficulties so many have had. Once Mike get something to run, he can 'play' with the 'S' chip, it might even be an idea to buy it in the sam order as the below. What is known working is the UART download. The Philips P89V51RD2 sells for $7.01 or if it has to be Atmel, the AT89C51ED2 sells for $8.50 both qty 1. Both are available (and priced) in 40-dip. Ok that is more than the $2.01 for the 'S' chip, but I think Mike by now need a afe bet even if it is $5 more. For economy and UART download, there is the Philips P89LPC935 that, while not pin compatible (28PLCC) is a dymanite chip selling at 3.06 albeit in PLCC (.1" sockets available). Mike, should it happen that you see the light and decide to buy from DigiKey (or somewhere else that has current parts) DO present the whole thing and the BOM, so we can (try to) save you paying shipping charges twice.
