Are both UARTs the same, or is one more "8051-like" than the other?

The Triscend had one "8051-like" UART, but it's "soft" UARTs were not like the 8051 (more like a PC UART) - and I managed OK with that mixture (all based on Keil's interrupt+ring-buffer example).
