When a guy asks what time it is, it's no help to tell him how to build a clock. Actually, I think it's very often the other way round: the guy asks, "how can I make my fusee escapement adjust for daylight saving" when what he really needs is just to know the time! In such cases, "why would you want to do that?" is not an unreasonable enquiry - though, perhaps, "what is it that you're actually trying to achieve?" might be better... Too often, posts start out with trying to fix a fundamentally broken idea - rather than considering what would be an appropriate approach to the underlying requirement or problem! :-( |
