#137978 - Idea nice but not for all embedded aplyable... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
...especially for systems where the resources are quite limited.
Now I think of embedded systems that are powered by ambient energy i.e. by a solar cell, vibration energy converters or electrodynamic converter. I am currently participateing on such project, and I see that exactly the same thing is happening as Erik said. We stick to the spec, follow the requirements, but unfortunately they are dynamic and changing during the development. And what is worse, at the beggining we though 16Mhz and 2k must be enough for eveyrone "as to live with Mr. Gates words" but after starting the implementation realised that we are at the border with resources (especially because of the migration from RISC to CISC architecture). And I so wish to have 2x so fast XTAL but unfortunately, the energy is limited so we can't afford this. And I also dream about 4k of RAM, but by an ASIC design 4k is simple means more chip area, which would raise the chip price. And the masks you can't change "to a cheaper one". But still I find the idea very wise and would follow it where it is possible. greetings Attila |
