1. power-up reset, to set the registers (mainly program counter) to default value
2. prevent uncontrolled action during power-failure The word itself, "supervisor", is just a buzzword with no fixed definition (as it is usual with many terms in our job, full of news and marketing). I think item 2 relates to it most. There is an another, even more modern buzzword, for mostly the same, namely Brown-Out Detection, BOD; which is also often confused with early power-failure detection (PFD, if you want one more useless acronym :-) ). I've summarised all these and more in the reset&watchdog document (unfinished yet). JW |
