And the App cannot open the port if it is already open by another application. So where is the annoyance. It seems rather silly for any App to depend upon the default settings for a COMM port frame format or baud rate. How could you ever depend on that to work?? So this point about this "unforgivable action" makes no sense to me!!! Now I agree if you're talking about something out in the tall grass by the junk pile behind the garage from the rusty DOS days then OK but then I don't seem to recall USB serial adapters from those days either.
