Here is an excerpt from their license agreement:
"You may not distribute, copy, emulate, clone, rent, lease and sell the program. Also, you may not modify, decompile, disassemble, otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the program, or any subset of the program, except to the extent and for the express purposes authorized by applicable law. Any such unauthorised use shall result in immediate and automatic termination of this licence and may result in criminal or civil prosecution. " IANAL but I'm pretty sure that the "emulate" and "clone" parts wouldn't stand up in court. If you can decipher the serial data between the Windows app and the board, you have every right to produce a Linux, or other OS, app that will generate the same data. It's been done for other types of hardware without any legal problems. What I detect in their license agreement is some over-eager lawyer trying to scare people into believing they can't breathe without his company's permission. Much like EULAs I've seen that "prohibit" anyone from giving a bad review of the product. No one, not government nor corporations, has the right to muzzle freedom of speech. |
