#155948 - Model of a capacitor Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The model of a capacitor contains more than just capacitance. At higher frequencies the ESL will be the limiting factor for the performance of your bypass capacitors. I would suggest reading the document at the link provided below. There is alot more to bypassing than just choosing a certain capacitance. You also need to think about the type of capacitor, the package size and the placement. Combine all this with some knowledge of where in the frequency spectrum you are most concerned about according to your hardware and you are in good position to provide proper bypassing for your circuit.

Another more general and extensive source for some free online information for EMC is the Keith Armstrong Portfolio (Thanks to Kai Klass for pointing this out earlier). You do have to register but it is simple and free: http://www.compliance-club.com/KeithArmstrong.aspx |
