#17098 - RE: MS in Embedded Systems...Duh |
2EE + ~(2EE):
------------ If you are seriously interested in embedded systems then I'd suggest Electrical Engineering, with your elective courses from Computer Science. In the USA, there are a lot of Computer Science graduates that are largely incompetent and dangerous to hire; well, maybe I overstated that. :) BUT, Electrical Engineers don't get the degrees until they suffer long and hard for the credentials. We used to say that a EE graduate was 400% qualified for any job in the industry, due to the coverage of all aspects beyond that due in a typical job. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: ------------------- Finding course descriptions - a lot of universities publish this on their web pages. SELECTING A UNIVERSITY: ---------------------- You can check some of the online technical magazines in a field of study for references to universities participating in research or significant activities. TELEPRESENSE: I used to keep track in work done in the robotic field of "telepresense" and NASA Ames and University of North Carolina (I'm not sure now if that's the right one) were the best universities for that a few years ago. That technology has been eclipsed by robotics with artificial intelligence largely, though a lot of work is being done militarily in this field. I think Telepresense is the emerging technology for the next 10 years. If you're planning for the future... consider this. Robotics: Everyone is playing with Robotics and the inertia changes at every monthly publication. DSP: Everyone is doing DSP now. Too many people know it to make it a valuable talent. Its hot now, but will be passe' in a couple years. CS: Everyone wants to be in computer science right now. Everyone *IS* in computer science right now. You don't have to be good, just be in the office. Corporations have recently been desparate to catch up by hiring CS employees but the charade will soon be revealed like the DOT-COM charade. Then a *LOT* of CS grads will be driving Taxis. :) MATHEMATICS IN MICROS: --------------------- I've always said this is the Achille's Heel of micro coders. Reliance upon math libraries is the fastest way to get out of a job interview at my company. :) Since this is what *EVERYONE* does poorly, its a valuable talent to those that can do it correctly. That's why I severly limit what I reveal on the topic. Regarding your algorithm, the nice thing about mathematics and even coding, you can know WHEN there is absolutely no way to improve further upon a process. duh |
