What you'll find "greater processing power" to mean is a much larger booth-multiplier (and accumulator).
The reason for this is to remove a great barrier to many application programmers that just can't do multibyte math efficiently. Relying blindly on library modules they find real-time critical calculations are often unacheivable. A larger booth-multiplier will greatly simplify computations and allow anyone (incuding C programmers - hehheh) to once again accomplish these tasks. After all, the only puzzle left will be simple man-machine interfacing. By the way, a company I smirk at gave up after 18 months trying to figure out how to do these computations fast enough.
