Using external peripherals will increase the cost instead of using on-chip peripheral (CAN, ADC, ...)
So will "external ISP"
For a CAN etc chip have a look at the Philips XA-G49 (a bit of relearning will be needed, but I just love the chip) it is ISP and CAN.
