Thanks for the discussion. I really appreciate your treatment of the less-thought-about cases involving the regulator and power supply bus. This is a topic that I have not found adequate treatment of in app notes and electronic design articles.

I am also glad you mentioned issues concerning input protection clamps backfeeding the supply bus and its effect on the design All of my designs thus far consume way more current than a clamped input would provide, and erroneous powering is not an issue for these designs. However, one day I may design a system with these concerns and I am glad you got me thinking about it.
