Yes, but 1) still requires MAX232-alike in its basic configuration, 2) is only for Plilips/Atmel. For entering ISP mode I'll go with manual switches.
Yes, "still requires MAX232" but that is the case whether you use NoTouch or switches.
Anyhow, my best guess is that a large portion of projects with ISP chips have a serial port
For a project where no serial comm was used, I mad a little clip-on board with a MAX232.

For 'exotic' ISP (non UART) you still need an 'adaptor cable' or some such thing.
