#88351 - Re: But which format, then? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Jan's original question:
By the way, not to be completely off-topic, what is the best format for publishing layouts? Can gerber files be further edited (to add features to a "free" design)? Jan's comments: OK, now we know that not gerber, so is there any good option for publishing layouts/schematics I assume by publishing you mean "publishing for the benifit of others" ? Why would you publish PCB layouts? so that if someone wants he can get the PCB manufactured, am I right? So the way to go is gerber + drill files which are accepted by PCB manufacturers all over the world. Additionally image files of the layout are useful for those who can't view gerber files and for those who wish to make their own PCB in case it is a SS board. Michael's views are absolutely correct but why bother if someone edits your gerber files which you have published already? Gerbtool has a nice DRC feature where you can check again if any change is still within safe clearance limits. |
