#88367 - Editing published PCBs Responding to: ???'s previous message |

My idea was, in a way open source software is published. For benefit of others - for making copies, and, for possible upgrading/changing by others. Obviously, there is no single commonly used format for this. Yes there is no standard format. But even if there would be any standard, directly editing a PCB source file can lead to errors. PCBs are designed starting from schematics so that connections, reference designators and certain component attributes are maintained through out the design. If some components are added/removed in the PCB file then there are bright chances of wrong/missed connections. Good PCB design softwares are capable of back annotation so that some changes done at PCB level are reflected back in schematic. |
