#89901 - To Jez Smith
Responding to: ???'s previous message

You havent bothered to check any of the things i siad to check. If you connect an input directly to Vcc without a limiting resistor and you have floating inputs then you really have nobody else to blame but yourself. The reason I asked you to check that the input isnt sourcing current when its low is its a very good indicator that the input is shagged which it probably is by now.

You didn't give me the time to answer your response! As you can (should) see, I'm busy going through the answers I got.
It's 6 o'clock in the morning here, so I just woke up and I can't look/answer 5 responses at a time...

Why are you constantly hammering on 'the direct connection to +5Vdc' and 'nobody else to blame but yourself'? This isn't the essence.
I told already this was just as a test and will of course not be done in the final version, so to speak.

I didn't start immediately by directly connecting the pin to +5Vdc, of course! Who would do that! I did it only afterwards, to see if I could 'force' the pin to go high again.

And since I still can detect high and low levels when connecting directly to +5Vdc, so I don't think the IO expander is shagged...

But I totally agree this isn't that 'healthy' for the component.

Best rgds,

--Geert
