#90108 - Murdered quote Responding to: ???'s previous message |
"True, but ISO/IEC 9899:1990 also says, "A 'plain' int object has the natural size suggested by the architecture of the execution environment..."
So there's clearly a conflict here for any 8-bit processor! Presumably, compiler implementors just have to decide which rule to break." There is no conflict. You chopped off the second half of the quote from the standard, which is: ...'(large enough to contain any value in the range INT_MIN to INT_MAX as defined in the header <limits.h>).' This statement would certainly have been clearer if the words 'that is' were inserted between the two halves, but is nonetheless definitive. |
