#90101 - int Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I said:
"If your compiler has int as 16 bits, this is very bad news on an 8051!" Donald Catto said:
'C' requires an integer to be at least 16 bits. True, but ISO/IEC 9899:1990 also says, "A 'plain' int object has the natural size suggested by the architecture of the execution environment..." So there's clearly a conflict here for any 8-bit processor! Presumably, compiler implementors just have to decide which rule to break. Oh well, there's some more ammunition for the "C should never be allowed on an 8051" camp! What does Pascal do about all this...? |
