Your compiler may be making an assumption about the constant and thinking it is an INT. Yes, that is very, very likely! The 'C' programming language always assumes that everything is int unless specifically told otherwise. If your compiler has int as 16 bits, this is very bad news on an 8051! That's why Keil has an option to specifically turn off the automatic ANSI integer promotions! ...to some extend.
