#90019 - "fancy" code Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Michael Karas said:
Your just now proving to yourself that your "fancy" code is way way to complicated for the simple functions being implemented. You may have the idea that it is 'elegant' but I'll tell you right now that on a '51 such code is hugely inefficient. Especially the use of all the structures and object pointers. I just read the two articles you pointed at in your reply. I fully understand what you're trying to say. I'm not going to say I don't know any 8051 assembly code, but I'm honest enough to say that I don't have enough in-depth assembly knowledge to do what I want to do right now in C, but then in assembler. Whether one likes it or not, but in my case it's a fact. But let me ask you a question: you say my 'fancy' code is way too complicated because of the usage of structures, pointers, etc... Can you then tell me what the alternative is to avoid multiple modules to control the same device? For example: in my project, I will have in total 12 PCF8574 IO expanders, 8 PCF8591 ADDA converters and 4 TDA8444 DAC's. What do I have to do to avoid implementing 12 times the same driver for the IO expander, 8 times the same driver for the 8591 and 4 times the same driver for the 8444? Using structs and pointers is currently my way of avoiding this 'monkey job'. Do you have a better solution for this? I would be very glad (and eager) to learn from this solution, if you would have, so that I indeed can return to 'less fancy' code. I'm very curious and I'm looking forward to see some proposals... Best rgds, --Geert |
