#91324 - is it ambiguous always?
Responding to: ???'s previous message

First, if the programmer does not recognize the chip, it has nothing to do with FLASH wear; rather, with wear of the programmer (ZIF or connectors).

Even I suspected this for when I got the problems. I called the programmer manufacturer and when I asked, he was too rude to talk, that conversation ended up in a fracas..

But what I amaze is, when a same chip is rejected by the programmer yesterday, it is getting programmed today. I thought the problem may be due to, as you all said, the programmer, the programmer software, the ZIF socket, but I tried different programmers also. The result is same. I borrowed some more chips (89c2051,89c52), did a confidence test with different programmers, the result is more or less same: Failure sometimes, bit read errors sometimes, or complete and convincing success sometimes, all with same chip!!

Sometimes the signature bit plays havoc. Programmer(s) say incorrect signature, but then program the chip on second run.

I am using programmer from:
http://www.frontline-electronics.com/html/prog...ratmel.htm

This places a surge of ambiguity with the chip when debugging any circuit: is it due to the controller or due to rest of the circuit? (Emulators will help but I have to afford only by saving my pocket expenses, being a student !!)

Regards,
Vignesh.
