But I have find one that is "a little bit" better than the LM324: The LM318, with a 15 MHz small signal bandwidth, a open loop frequency response of 60dB at 40kHz. Would it be a better choice actually? LM318 is not a single supply OPamp, like LM324. It needs much more than 5V supply voltage. If you cannot get better OPamps than only the LM324, then you could try the following circuit: ![]() It uses 4 OPamps to realize the big gain. So, each one needs only to amplify a bit. In order to prevent the circuit from oscillating, which is often caused by a positive feedback of output signal to input via stray capacitance, between each gain stage a low pass filter of 10k and 100pF is inserted. This should help to prevent oscillation. Adjust the poti so that a voltage of about 3.0V will make the transistor to trip. Apply a pulse signal to the ultrasonic emitter and count the time period up to the moment, when the transistor goes low. This will be the time travel of the first echoe. By the way, it can help to use two LM358 instead of one LM324, if oscillation is still an issue! And, use a good power supply decoupling consisting of a 22Ohm resistor and a 100µF capacitor. Kai |
