#97186 - There are those Responding to: ???'s previous message |

IMHO, forums such as this one are best run as a benevolent dictatorship. Someone's gotta be in charge. As long as the rules are clear and applied fairly, there shouldn't be any complaints. There are those that believe that Steve and I don't apply the rules fairly or evenhandedly or that some small group (beyond Steve and myself) have some unfair input as to decisions that are made at 8052.com. I find this belief interestinglsince, considering the number of messages, we do precious little moderating of anyone and those that are allegedly a part of this group have actually had their messages moderated more than the people that hold this belief. But the belief does exist. If the objector is still unhappy, he's free to start his own forum! True. But I'm personally in favor of as little "forking" as possible in communities such as the one at 8052.com. Its usefulness is a direct result of so many people with so many different experiences sharing their knowledge in a single place. The combined value exceeds the sum of its parts and, thus, I'd like to see as little "forking" as possible. Thus I DO try to keep as many people happy as possible. It's unfortunate that a few people believe that Steve or I are on some kind of "power trip", as if our lives were so empty that we actually get some kind of pleasure from closing a thread or deleting a post. Go figure. Regards, Craig Steiner 8052.com Webmaster |
