What happens if you change the 0C0h to, say, 8Ah? That should position the "J" on the 11th character position of the first line. Try that. Let's see if you have a problem with all cursor positioning commands or just the second line. Just one thing more I persume the contrast has to be connected to high (+5V)via potentiometer but in my case It works when I connect it to GND via resistance. could it be problem? Mine is connected via pot. I'm not sure what the expected results would be with a resistance to ground, that probably varies from LCD to LCD.
