no need, you can look that up in a datasheet And also note, that even the coolest professionals DO use diode-resistor logic even if they are not aware of doing so (look at the TTL-LS gates' input stages). but not in the configuration you suggest But of course, for rocket science the two-transistor solution is better. If it is your opinion that solid noise margins is "rocket science", then PLEASE warn me if one of your designs ever becomes commercially available so I do not buy it. Sorry for being a little bit emotional but as I said I don't think THIS is a matter which needs more attention and hair-picking. It's so easy to state your opinion and then say "I don't think THIS is a matter which needs more attention". That technique has been used by many when they wanted their opinion to be the last word.
