correct, but I would not dicount the mutiple uC possibility out of hand. However if I will eventually do that is the case, then drop it NOW.

There is absolutely nothing hindering you from doingt this in one micro, but the itty bitty uCs from Philips, Atemel etc do not cost that much more that a latch and do not have many more pins. I do not know if you are to process identical relays, if not the multiple uC solution will allow a different debounce for bank q, should that be required.

Again, there is no 'reason' to go multiple uC, but you should not reject it out of hand.
