Its english (as opposed to martian) syntax is why it ended up in most early home PC's I'm not sure that's the (whole) reason. I think the primary reason was that it was an interpreted language - and interpreters are a lot easier and cheaper to implement than the compilers required by Fortran, et al with a very small percentage of others including stuff like Pascal, ForTran or forth(ughh) etc. I don't think that Pascal or Forth existed at the time? |
