I went ahead and redesigned two boards to include a reset chip. The first board I know has problems with rapid power cycling: it happened at work during firmware dev. Both products have the same LPC932A1 circuit, but the second board has an additional circuit for an RF transmitter. Before I hacked the reset chip onto the second board, I attempted to cause it to hang with quick power cycling. It wouldn't do it! I'm assuming that the additional circuitry is killing off the charge fast enough for the internal reset to work properly, since that's the only difference between the two boards.
That being said, I'm still keeping the reset chip in the second board, because: I only tested one unit, at room temperature, with only one of our many wall-wart power supplies. Better safe than sorry. Thought you'd all like to know. tom |
