Oddly enough, I actually did notice the (written) need to disable the watchdog somewhere. I couldn't find the requirement when I was going over the code later, though, so I yanked it. AFAIK there is no such need. My experiments with the '450 worked perfectly well without that. update: looked into the datasheet - the poweron state of WD is determined by a FLASH bit... and once enabled, it cannot be disabled again... Can you check the state of that bit? Also, the writing into WDCON is tricky... read the datasheet thoroughly. Bob Robertson said:
Other possible sources of error: This is just on a breadboard, and I'm alternately floating and connecting the reset pin with a wire and my fingers. Should this be debounced? Better, for just the initial experiments, reset it by switching off/on the power. An appropriate reset generator is always a plus. Some of them have pushbutton reset. Bob Robertson said:
Further, the start4xx.A51 file apparently uses an include file designed for the '420, as opposed to the '430 or '450. I'll investigate this. AFAIK there is was change between '420 and '450 register-wise. The main difference is related to FLASH and its programming. JW |
