This is probably true.
The one proviso is that it is possibly not safe to do this on many pins simultaneously!

Most manufacturers that do specify pin current rating also specify limits on the maximum total current per port and/or the maximum total current for the whole device

This should not come as a surprise for a modern driver NMOS with typical ON resistance of some 100 Ohm

Quite so; and the proviso is to avoid you exceeding the power dissipation limits of the chip and/or package
