I may be juuust a bit bitter, after dancing with it for almost a full week, and then switching to a different tool and solving the problem almost immediately. On the surface it's very pretty, and adds some useful features that Hyperterminal doesn't seem to have (haven't read the manual yet), such as filtering, the ability to eavesdrop painlessly, and four (count 'em!) four different ways to look at the exact same data. On the other hand, it has a few quirks that gave me trouble -- for example, pressing button A then button B has a different effect then pressing button B, then A.

On the third hand, I subscribe to a more Unix-like philosophy of software use: Each program should do one thing well, and be able to seamlessly hand off its output to another program. Glitz is nice, but it started getting into the way, I felt. Of course, I only scanned the manual for the Monitor, too, so it's entirely possible that I was just stepping on my own toes.
