In my (limited) experience, there are tools appropriate to tasks. I am using at least 4 different serial terminal program just under windows, and 2 more for DOS and Linux. I can justify the usage of all of them in particular given situation. Yet for a specific task, I had to use an another custom-written terminal-like program (no terminal I know is able to correctly handle and display parity error). And I do use FLIP and FlashMagic for their respective task, even if I already used several times the general-purpose terminals (see my macro for Tera Term for downloading the RD2's).
For the rudimentary close-to-hardware work, Terminal by Bray is indispensable for me, and recommend it. Unfortunately, Bray's site appears to be down for some time now... JW |
