Many (in fact most, I think) don't sell direct - only through distribution.

Even Maxim - who do sell direct - still have problems with counterfeit parts:

Note that "BRILLIANT ELECTRO SYSTEMS PVT LTD" is not listed by Atmel as a distributor for India:
