It is absolutely possible, what I mentioned i.e. both RX and TX. I have done it and it works.

Here we go again. If you look through the posts from the past you will find many that say "my (crummy little) 232 circuit that has always worked does not work with my new PC".

Standards are there for a purpose.

once more: "the fact that something "works" is no proof that it is right"

now we may see sanjeev happily implementing the above with 3.3V and come back "why does it not work"
