Sadly you are correct, but who will fix the design when it comes time to put it into production? You get what you pay for. Cheap pay, cheap design. Also there will always be a need for engineers to maintain a product line, because somebody wants to add features and they don't want it to take 6 months to a year to get that new feature. There will always be jobs in the process industry, designing automation equipment, etc. I fear the CEOs have their blinders on and are looking at the short term instead of the long term. Ultimately putting their company out of business. In the US, I wonder where will the next generation of design engineers come from, if the pay doesn't keep pace with other professions. Where will happen to the US, if more and more work is sent overseas? How will we defend ourselves if all of our missles, jets, tanks are made in China? All because of short sighted policies that the US government is actively encouraging. Monopolies are bad no matter what the reason. Innovation comes from small companies, not large companies. Innovation has been the engine of the US economy for 230+ years. |
